There are a few things I know about my self and my life. I know I obsess over meaning. I have a conceptual mind. I have a need to understand, sometimes what is truly a given. The sun rises, the sun sets. Beauty. Alas, I am a self confessed nerd. An over thinker. When my mother passed in January all meaning left. Sucked out. Marrow from bone. Now, meaning I find is indeed a matter of living. A matter of sifting. Of rediscovering. A matter of choice. I don't understand our society. Our world. Sometimes, often, my self. But I do understand choice. I understand desire and passion. Honestly, sort of. Emotions are complex. I understand the need for meaning. The need for beauty. Meaning and beauty both are not easily understood, but somehow both give clarity. Solace. I spoke briefly once with Jayne Michaels who mentioned being from California and Utah and of her mother being an artist who paints. This has informed her work. Their work, of 2Michaels Design. I appreciate how Brad Ford's childhood in Arkansas has informed his interiors. How Vicente Wolf's work brings in the world. The world of meaning. Of beauty. I do not pretend to have the answers. Nor do I wish to have them, all. What I have is choice. What I have is the desire for meaning. The desire for life. To make meaning. To give beauty.

When Tom Ford quietly entered the cosmetics arena last fall with a lipstick collection, beauty addicts clamored, “Where’s the rest?” Never one to rush things, Ford made us wait a full year before revealing the complete Tom Ford Color Collection—all 132 pieces of it, covering not just makeup but brushes, nail varnishes, and even skincare. While the line includes a healthy offering of nudes and beiges, the majority of the shades—from the shimmery eye shadow quads to the intense lip colors and the blacker- than-black mascaras and eyeliners—are every bit as titillating as you might expect. Just don’t call them sexy. “‘Sensuous’ is a word I like to use a lot in reference to the color,” Ford says. “Beauty that is sensuous is touchable, and sensuality is more important to me right now. ‘Sexuality’ implies you’re actually going to have sex; sensuality is something else.”

Blond or blonde (see below) or fair-hair is a hair color characterized by low levels of the dark pigment eumelanin. The resultant visible hue depends on various factors, but always has some sort of yellowish color. The color can be from the very pale blond (caused by a patchy, scarce distribution of pigment) to reddish "strawberry" blond colors or golden-brownish ("sandy") blond colors (the latter with more eumelanin). On the Fischer–Saller scale blond color ranges from A to J (blond brown).

Natural lighter hair colors occur most often in Europe and less frequently in other areas.[24] In northern European populations, the occurrence of blond hair is very frequent. The hair color gene MC1R has at least seven variants in Europe giving the continent a wide range of hair and eye shades. Based on recent genetic research carried out at three Japanese universities, the date of the genetic mutation that resulted in blond hair in Europe has been isolated to about 11,000 years ago during the last ice age.[25]

A typical explanation found in the scientific literature for the evolution of light hair is related to the requirement for vitamin D synthesis and northern Europe's seasonal deficiency of sunlight.[26] Lighter skin is due to a low concentration in pigmentation, thus allowing more sunlight to trigger the production of vitamin D. In this way, high frequencies of light hair in northern latitudes are a result of the light skin adaptation to lower levels of sunlight, which reduces the prevalence of rickets caused by vitamin D deficiency. The darker pigmentation at higher latitudes in certain ethnic groups such as the Inuit is explained by a greater proportion of seafood in their diet. As seafood is high in vitamin D, vitamin D deficiency would not create a selective pressure for lighter pigmentation in that population.
